Bruce Banner was a respected scientist who was working for the military to develop a gamma bomb. Seconds before the gamma bomb was to be tested, he saw a young man driving through the test area.

Banner ordered the countdown stopped and raced to save the manbut a jealous research assistant neglected to stop the countdown, and the bomb was exploded. Although Banner was able to get the boy to safety, he was caught in the gamma radiation released by the bomb. Thereafter, whenever he became angry, he found himself changing into a huge green monster with unbelievable strength. This monster became known as the Incredible Hulk. Although the Hulk initially was a stupid, destructive incarnation of Banners primal side, it was recently integrated with Banners intellect (in issue #377).

The new Hulk, although never reverting to human form, is a far more interesting character than the original.
